About Us
Food Service BuildingThe Food Service Department provides meals through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Child Nutrition Programs to the students of the Green Bay Area Public School District each school day. The work doesn’t end there though - there are 18 programs offering after-school dinner, and throughout the summer we offer lunch in our community parks and meals to students in summer school. On average, 5,000 breakfasts, 12,500 lunches, 1,100 dinners are served daily during the school year, and 6,000 lunches during summer!

Staffing
In total, the Department employs nearly 140 school nutrition professionals each school year. Our management team consists of a chef, a registered dietitian, and two dual business-nutritional science degree holders. During the 2020-23 school year, our staff participated in nearly 3,500 hours of professional standards and development training - over twice the amount required from USDA regulations!

Writing the Menu
The menu is written with student input - kid-tested, dietitian approved! The U.S. Department of Agriculture, in collaboration with the Institute of Medicine, designs and evaluates science-based appropriate nutritional standards for each meal. The Department follows these federal regulations to ensure our students receive the best food and nutrition available. Our meals consist of fiber-rich whole grains, powerful lean protein, a variety of fruits and vegetables, and Wisconsin’s own fresh milk. We also partner with local vendors, producers, and growers to provide local foods from Wisconsin as often as possible. Keeping with the trends in food is important, which is why you’ll see a few menu items striking resemblance to major food chains and diverse flavors. We strive to be the “best restaurant” in Green Bay for our PreK - 12th grade students!

After-School
For many students, receiving additional support after-school is critical to academic achievement and learning. The Department is excited to provide meals at no-cost for these students at all of our traditional high schools, 12 other schools, and both Boys & Girls Clubs in Green Bay.

Summer
Partnering with the City of Green Bay’s Department of Parks, Recreation, and Forestry, as well as other local community partners including libraries and museums, the Department provides no-cost lunches at all Playground Program parks. There are special events hosted throughout the summer where meals are available as well. The meals are available at no-cost for children 18 and younger; meals can be purchased by an adult for an affordable rate.
